Side (pronounced Seeday) is quite simply a superb location for a holiday. On Turkey's south coast on the Mediterranean Turkish riviera, with beautiful beaches, stunning historic scenery and the friendliest people. We love staying there, and we think you will too.
Turkey's Mediterranean shore, called the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1600 km (994 miles) long, scattered with fine-sand beaches and sprinkled abundantly with classical cities turned to picturesque ancient ruins.
The Turquoise Coast is the first place to think of when you're considering a seaside vacation in Turkey. It has nicer beaches and resorts than the Aegean coast, and warmer water than the Black Sea coast.
The apartment is 5 minutes walk from many of Side's bars, restaurants and shops, close (though not TOO close) to the nightlife, and is a 10 minute walk to the beach with plenty of opportunity for water sports.
The ancient ruins, temples and amphitheatre of old Side and the bazaar are only a few minutes from the apartment. For those who prefer other activities, several golf courses are nearby, and even a ski resort! (Sakklikent)
Several excursions including white water rafting are available from Side. A trip to nearby Manavgat for the waterfalls is also a must. If you are into diving (or woiuld like to be), organised diving trips run from the harbour and can be booked from there.
The old town of Side is a joy, with the ancient roman ruins mixed in between bars, restaurants and shops. The main area of the town is pedestrianised and it's a wonderful place to visit in the early evening to window shop, buy some bargains, have a drink or grab a bite to eat. It has a great atmosphere but in the height of the season be prepared to haggle for the bargains!
The ruins of the ancient city mingle with the new, and despite its development as a resort, it retains its own very special atmosphere and charm. Its impressive second century theatre, supported by arched vaults, offers fine views towards the sea and you can still see the remains of an ancient street lined with pillars and arcades and the market place where slaves were once sold. Nearby the Agora Baths Museum contains a beautifully restored fifth century bath house and some interesting statues and artefacts.
The beach of course is one of Side's main attractions, and it is hard to rival the quality of the sand or the length of the beach, with plenty of space to sunbathe even in high season. The beaches are situated to the east and west of the old town - to the west is the main hotel area so the beaches are busier with more activities. To the east the beach is undeveloped and much quieter - wander amongst the sand dunes and be surprised by ancient ruins.
